Notions of Negativity
My practice is focused predominantly on creating work that is inspired by the natural landscape. Showcasing my curiosity for the materials and structures we find within them, through the medium of glass blowing. My focus within glassblowing is introducing texture into glass forms, through the incorporation of rocks. I enjoy exploring the possibilities that can arise due to the introduction of rock into the making process as the material can be unpredictable and create interesting textures on the glass’ surface.
With my current work I have taken inspiration from the numerous dry-stone walls that weave their way across the UK. I have incorporated welsh slate into the making process by stacking up small pieces of slate into a former in the formation of a dry-stone wall. Which then creates an imprint in the glass, and from this I have created a decanter set for people to enjoy and connect through.
